When you are born in an environment like La Horra, you can only love the terroir and the wine it produces. This is what our family has been doing for almost 250 years: living with an austere landscape, battered by the winds, punished by the extreme climate, but which we have been able to manage and adapt to, to get the best out of it.<\/p>

From this land, known as the Golden Diamond of the Ribera del Duero, can only come an excellent wine, recognized worldwide for its uniqueness, aromas and nuances.<\/p>

In Bodegas Balb\u00e1s we make wines with their own personality, adapted to each time, to each taste; something we have been doing for 7 generations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t

The legacy of our family, linked to the land and the vine for almost 250 years, began in 1777. Abundio Balb\u00e1s, the great-great-grandfather of Juan Jos\u00e9 Balb\u00e1s, made wine for his own consumption with grapes from his land, which he transported in \"boots\" made from animal skins.<\/p>

This practice became a profession, that of \"boteros\", which the family has been able to develop and evolve until today we are one of the leading wineries in the DO Ribera del Duero appellation, of which we were founders in 1982.<\/p>

At the head of the winery is Juan Jos\u00e9 Balb\u00e1s, a staunch defender of our land, who -together with Clara de la Fuente, his wife- has been in charge of bringing the history and wines of Bodegas Balb\u00e1s to the present days.<\/p>

Aware that wine is an expression of the terroir, he has maintained the family philosophy of being a winegrower before being a winemaker, as he was taught by his father, V\u00edctor, and before that by his grandfather, Abundio, and which he summarized as follows:\"the potential of a wine is marked by the quality of the soil and the grapes it produces<\/em>His passion for conveying this typicality has meant that Balb\u00e1s wines do not leave those who taste them indifferent.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t

Bodegas Balb\u00e1s faces a promising future with Patricia and Mar\u00eda Balb\u00e1s -seventh generation- who have joined the company to continue transmitting values and a family legacy around the world in the form of unique wines.<\/p>

Pedro de la Fuente, the winemaker, is the architect of the personality of Bodegas Balb\u00e1s wines.<\/p>

He has been linked to the winery for more than 25 years and is responsible for ensuring that each wine brings out the best of itself.
